Let it snow, Let it snow.

Well finally down to the last week of class which for some of the could not come soon enough. The weather here is snowing and cold with lots of wind that drives the temperature even lower. But on the other hand I haven't been outside in a week so it doesn't really bother me. Well all my classes are back on, as the one teacher that has missed the past 2 weeks due to the labor strike has decided that we need are education. I also have been sick for about the past month as it's rez and there is always a lot of viruses, and the food contains little nutritional value. Luckily I've got a catered dinner coming up on Friday for the C4C Christmas. Besides that really no a whole lot is happening I just been sleeping a lot cause of my various illnesses, and soon I will have to start busting my butt to study for all my finals. Anyways if I think of more things to add I will. Here's the latest beard pic.

3 weeks until term end

Well yet another weekend has come and gone. School is going alright I have another round of midterms this week which I'm not looking forward to. Especially Latin due to the fact that not only do I have a lot of words to remember, I now have to know all present forms as well as future. Hopefully with some studying I can do alright. I have finally gotten over the flu that I had for the past week, and although not 100% I am feeling pretty good. At the University however CUPE is on strike, they are the union that includes pretty much all staff that are not profs. Oddly enough however the food quality at the cafeteria has gone up on most occasions. However the strike could cause major problems come exam time, as they are already saying that if it isn't resolved by the end of this week graduation might well be put on hold. Also as a result of the strike one of my profs has decided that she can't cross the picket line and has canceled class until the midterm leaving us to teach ourselves the topics that were going to be covered this past couple of weeks.

Not much is happening personally, I went to a friends house on Sunday to watch the Stamps lose yet again in the semifinal game. Monday was spent with my nose buried in my books trying to figure out both Latin and Finance. I'm definitely looking forward to coming home for Christmas. It's starting to get cold out here with snow appearing almost every morning, and although the temperature is not that cold there is always a really cold wind blowing. Well I hopefully see you guys in a month after exams.

It's been awhile

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with this as much as I would have like to but not much is going on out here. I've finished writing all my midterms and my marks were fairly good, I got 73% on Latin, and the rest were high 70's to low 80's with my highest mark being 88% in corporate finance. I also saw an academic adviser the other day on trying to decide my major, which is a toss up between accounting and finance. The only problem with accounting is that if I go for the second degree it could take a bit longer as I get about 4 less electives in accounting than finance.

Oh yes I also bought a new laptop, it's a Mac, which although I didn't necessarily need is nice none the less. I almost forgot today is the first day of Leviticus 19:27 (aka No shave November) and so here is me with no goatee for those of you that can't remember the day. Nothing much else is going on just hanging out, playing squash, and now that our football season is over, we finished 0-5-1, I have to find something else to help me keep fit and lose weight.

I miss turkey and stuffing

Right sorry for the late update Thanksgiving weekend really screwed up my schedule and I was a day behind all week. School is going pretty good except for the fact that I have 4 midterms this week, which is not cool. Latin is starting to get insanely complex as I am having trouble figuring out whether 'What?' is nominative or accusative. My Industrial Relations class continues to be boring as we still have to do group discussions and write journal entries about are learning process. Other than that most of my classes are going fairly well, and I've agreed to help a guy in my Finance class so that should help me do some studying. For the most part though I don't have much work for school as there are few assignments and so I have to wait for various test to get any marks and find out where I'm at in class.

Thanksgiving was absolutely wonderful, I went to dinner on Sat. with the guys and it was good to catch up on how things were going in Calgary. I was also able to see a Flames game (thanks Regan) and although they lost it was still a good time. Then came the biggest turkey dinner ever and thanks to my mom's amazing cooking skills I was actually able to eat something that resembled proper food for the first time that week, and of course there was pumpkin pie which is probably my favourite part of the dinner. This weekend has been pretty nice as I went to the Huskies game on Saturday, with Ryan and it was a good game that the U of C won on a last second 51 yard field goal. Then today I went the same church as Esther, a friend from Capernwray, and it was good to catch up on whats been going on for the past year and a bit. The church itself was really nice as it was a small congregation but fairly young. The music was fairly contemporary and the pastor was fairly good. Well I would like to write more, I can't think of anything at the moment and I have to go check on my laundry.

Musings of Tyler

Hello people of the Internet, Tyler here with another update from the U of S. Let see new stuff this week, well I had an exam on Thursday in Corporate Finance which I thought I did great as I knew 99% of the material covered by the exam but only ended up getting a 72%. This is not good as I need a 76 in order to get into accounting. On the other hand I have about a 77% in Latin although we haven't done anything that counts towards are final grade yet. Other than that school is going pretty slack as although I have a fair amount of assignments they tend to take only about an hour max. My football team still is without a win as we got blown out 36-0 in our game on Thursday, but hopefully we can go into the long weekend with a win(or a least a touchdown).

As you know this weekend was the C4C retreat at Redberry Bible Camp, and what a spectacular time. The weather was for the most part alright with Saturday being overcast, and chilly for half the day. The speaker was great as the topic for the weekend was about realigning our view of the world with the view of God. A big part of this was focus on His view of the lost, and how as Christians we are commanded to go spread the Word of God. This is something that I definitely have been guilty of not doing and I want to improve on throughout the next couple of months. The one session that probably had the greatest impact on me was the one about our view of God. How often when we see pictures of Jesus he's wearing a nice clean robe petting sheep, or speaking gently to the disciples. Although this pictures are in a sense accurate we were also shown another view of Jesus from Revelations 19:12-16. This struck a chord with me in that it help me to see that God isn't 'safe' but like Mrs. Beaver says in the Chronicles of Narnia "He's good". So I have slowly (and reluctantly) realized that I must step out of my comfort zone in order to grow closer to God. One way I plan on doing this is God willing going on a missions trip with C4C this summer. I again felt what I feel is calling to go to Africa (the first time was at Capernwray), as it happens C4C has 3 trips to Africa (Egypt, Tanzania, and Malawi), all of which cost a fair bit of money. However I have the feeling that if God wants me to go money will not be an issue. So in conclusion I would like to ask for prayer on that I would be able to hear God's plan for me for the next, and also the courage to follow through with what He has planned.

God Bless.
Matthew 28:16-20

PS. Just a reminder I'm coming home for Thanksgiving and hope to see all of you.
PPS. I just found out my mark on the Finance quiz went up to 76% as the prof had made on error on the scantron sheet

Ode to Cafeteria Food

So it's the last week of September (woot) classes are going good. I have a quiz on Thursday in Corporate Finance, which shouldn't be to bad as it is mainly ratio analysis. Other than that it's the same stuff of reading the chapter and dozing off in class. Latin continues to be a struggle as I try to memorize words and not being able to have a basic conversation is, I think, slowing down the process. I do however have plenty of Latin plays to read. Cafeteria food is slowly starting to get bland as the cycle is being repeat. Some days though are very good, and one of those days is Wednesday as we get waffles for breakfast which is absolutely delicious and brightens one's day. Meatballs are usually pretty sketchy, although chili dogs are delicious, and it saddens me that they aren't a regular occurrence back home. Ah yes and I almost forgot to tell you guys my football team tied it's season opener 0-0, I think there were about 12 interceptions in the game.

I had my first real DG(Discipleship Group) today, and it went fairly well as we are doing the 4 walks, talks, and ministries of knowing God. The first walk that we learned of today was walking assured, which has been helpful so far as the more I think on it the less I worry not just about getting to heaven but also about more general things like not having enough money for school. One big thing that I've struggled with lately has been the thinking that I'm not adequate for God in a way, because of the fact that my testimony is what one would call "powerful" but going through DG today I began to realize that it didn't matter, and that God still loves me all the same and still can use me in ministry. Oh I believe I mentioned it last post that this weekend I'm going on a retreat to Red Berry Bible Camp with C4C which should incredibly awesome, and I'm really looking forward to it, and getting off campus for a weekend. I'm also going to be coming home for Thanksgiving as I'm able to get a ride with my parents' cleaner's son, who is also going to the U of S. I look forward to seeing all you guys (and gals) then.

God Bless

Week 2

Well I've reached another week here at the U of S, the weather seems to be trying desperately to hold off the impending winter. Classes are starting to pick up especially my Comm 101 class which between now and the middle of November has and assignment or test due pretty much every class. Similarly most of my other commerce class have a lot of assignments due in the next month or so and although the don't take a long time to complete they need to be done none the less. As well the there is quite a bit more reading than compared to my first year as the profs here barely touch on the text and expect you to read it so you know all the concepts. Latin continues to get harder as we now have to learn 3rd declination nouns as well as neuter (neither) nouns and their corresponding adjectives. My touch football team is about to kickoff the season this Thursday, we're playing in an "A" league so we don't have much hope in getting to the playoffs. As well I'm only able to play in half the games as I have a class Thursday late afternoons, but it should be fun none the less.

Today was also the first day for the bible study I joined through C4C which looks promising as there are only 4, maybe 5 guys in the group so it should be some good discussions. There is also a worship/sermon night on Fridays that's on campus that I've been going to, and there is usually a social activity afterwards (last week it was a photo scavenger hunt). I'm also still looking for a church as I didn't really like the one I went to on the Sunday before last, although good was a bit slow for my taste. Apparently there is a Mennonite church that a few people in C4C go to so I'll have to see if I can get a ride from one of them or make use of my bus pass that I have. The good thing although I don't have many friends in my classes I do have quite a few that I usually see around campus everyday which definitely helps to stop the home sickness. Oh there is also a weekend retreat for christian university students at the end of Sept that I'll be going to and it looks really fun and a good time to get a breather from school. Also there is like 21 girls signed up compared to just 9 guys but of course I should be a good student, and not worry about getting a girlfriend :)

Anyways check back next week as I expand on the monotony of Rez food.

Greetings and Salutations,

Here is the first post of my new blog, which I'll try to update fairly regularly. So anyways whats new in the life of Tyler, as I have now completed one week of school.

To be honest not much, classes are progressing as normal, publishing companies continue to steal my money as the push out new editions that are not needed. My Latin is getting better as I have now memorized the first and second conjugation of verbs, and have partially learned the 1st and 2nd declination of nouns. Now all I need to do is start to memorize actual words which shouldn't be to difficult as at this moment we are dealing with only 7 verbs and about 9 nouns. All my other classes are boring straight forward commerce courses that I'm sure if I started talking about everyone would quit reading my blog.

Onto my social life, well alas I have yet to meet a single girl I still have several months left. I have joined Campus 4 Christ (FKA Campus Crusade 4 Christ) and am looking at joining a on campus bible study with said group. I also have a few friends outside of that group, that I usually hang out with on the weekends. The good thing is one of my friends Brad, he's grandparents live in town and so last week we went over there and had a delicious home cooked meal. Up coming events that I'm looking forward to are the touch football league I've joined, as well C4C is putting on a weekend retreat at the end of September that I'm looking at going to.

Other than that not much is happening in Saskatoon, the weather still remains fairly warm although in the evenings it cools of a fair bit. With that I will say fairwell, and know that all of you are in my prayers.
